Wide, Versatile Gear Range

Gear Comparison: Chain Bike vs Dynamic Shaft Drive BicyclesDynamic's bikes come standard as 8-speed models. But don't let the number of gears mislead you. In a 24-speed chain-derailleur system, the majority of these gears are overlapping or redundant. So you really don't have 24-gears; you really only have about 10 or 12 distinct gears. With our chainless bikes, we provide a similar range of gearing - just done with 8 evenly spaced gears. Which means you can still tackle the same terrain you would on a chain-driven bike.

So think about it – how many gears do you really use? Shimano’s internal gear hubs merely spread out the gears for you, giving you tremendous gear range with fewer steps, easier and smoother shifting, and no dropped chains.

8-Speed Bicycles

The Shimano 8-speed internal hubs were designed to keep up with your riding ambitions. They offer a gear range comparable to 21 gears of a 24-gear chain bike to power you up hills as gracefully as they speed you along city streets or country roads. Depending on the Dynamic bicycle model, our 8-speed bicycles are configured using either the nexus 8-speed, Nexus Premium 8-speed, or Alfine 8-speed hub. All these 8-speed hubs offer the same range of gearing; just different levels of efficiency and braking for differen bike models. The Nexus Premium 8-speed hub (identifiable by its red stripe) and the Alfine 8-speed are our most rugged and versatile hubs - designed using highly durable gears and high efficiency components. The Alfine 8-speed hub offers compatibility with disc brakes for improved all-weather, all-season braking performance. Our 8-speed bikes are designed for riding comfortably at 15-20 MPH at a pedaling pace of about 60-80 pedal revolutions per minute (RPMs). Faster pedaling speeds can readily exceed 25+ MPH. Simplified Maintenance

Shaft Drive lubrication using special greaseDid you know that 90% of a bikes ongoing repair and maintenance time and cost are related to chains and derailleurs? That's why Dynamic's chainless bicycles are 90% less expensive and time consuming to maintain. Both the shaft drive and the internal gearing are inherently low maintenance, so little effort is required on your part to keep your bike running at peak efficiency. Since the shaft drive and internal gearing are fully enclosed, there are no exposed moving parts. So compared to chain bikes, chainless bicycles can go much longer without maintenance or adjustment so they can operate more efficiently and more consistently. In fact, almost all of our bike components are designed to be easily maintained at home without any special tools or knowledge. For help with the most common adjustments on our bikes, watch our technical videos.

The new Sussex 4th generation shaft drive used on our 2013 bike models is our easiest ever to maintain. Each bike comes with a small bottle of specially formulated grease that gets added to the front gearbox upon final assembly. This special grease is formulated to last up to 5,000 miles. After that, simply add a little more. What could be easier?
