With its wide knobby tires and high travel front suspension fork, the Switchback Elite offers the versatility to explore your favorite mountain trails as easily as you tackle tough urban commutes. It features Shimano's highly acclaimed Alfine 8-speed gearing - our smoothest, most rugged and most efficient gearing. The planetary gears on the Alfine hub are cold forged and heat treated to take long term abuse, and the hub internals are designed to handle inputs that would exceed what could be exerted by most any rider. The Switchback Elite's 8-speeds offer a gear range comparable to 21 gears on a 24-gear chain bike, including climbing gears for tackling off-road climbs with control and confidence. The dual disc brake design offers strong, responsive and consistent braking in all kinds of terrain and conditions. Plus, with the tough, aluminum enclosed shaft drive and all-internal gearing, this bike also offers 13" of ground clearance and the durability to take crashes that would otherwise cripple fully exposed chains and derailleurs. The RST Omega front suspension fork offers 80mm (3+ inches) of travel to eat up obstacles with ease and reduce fatigue in your hands and arms from bumpy off-road rides. If you're looking for a fun mountain-style bike you can use both on and off-road, the Switchback Elite 8 is your best pick.
